MVHR DESIGN - Installers, Self-Builders & Architects

If you're building or designing a dream home and installing an MHVR system, we are here to advise on the correct process. To do this, system design is crucial.

Building a new home will have involved many hours of painstaking thought to get to this point. Designing the ventilation system is a continuation of this. We see your design as a collaborative process, working with you to understand the layout of your home, deciding where to locate the key components and making sure it's all understood and correct. Ultimately, by doing this, we know the system will meet Building Regulations (hugely important) and once installed, be signed off by Building Control.

There is a small cost to this, which allows us to provide you with our first-class, experienced service.

Testimonial

Following on from the recent house job you designed and supplied for us, I would like you to now design and quote on the attached project, as we are very close to needing first fix ducting etc.  To give some feedback for the current job, as it was a large property, the install was commissioned exactly as per your design. The Zehneder 600 unit made it so easy compared to other brands we have used, and I doubt we would use any other brands now. MHVR installer

MVHR SUPPLY

When building a property, it's tempting to want every last screw and length of wood on site just to make sure you have all you need. Unfortunately, this has its own issues, not least space and the opportunity for some components to get lost or damaged. Because we understand the process, we can divide your order into bundles so you only get what you need, when you need it – as well as spreading the cost – we will only invoice you for what we have shipped. Supply normally takes place in two stages (like the build). Here at Epicair, we can supply everything you need for your project.

Have a look at this blog which provides details of the essential MVHR shopping list you'll need.

1st Fix

This contains all the items that go into the structure of the building behind the final finishes, so things like ducting and manifolds that get tucked into walls or behind ceiling boards.

As MVHR ducting is larger than standard plumbing and electrical services, it is essential to fit this first to avoid costly duct run clashes later.

2nd Fix

Once all the services are in, the plastering and the painting done, you will then be ready to install the unit and connect the ducting. Please let us know when you need the remaining items.  You will then need to commission the MVHR, making sure all the functions are working, the air flows are correct and comply with the Building Regulations and are according to the design (see below). The completed paperwork will then be required by Building Control to pass Building Regulations.

MVHR COMMISSIONING

Commissioning is the final step in the process to ensure that what was intended at the design stage has been achieved. A poorly balanced system can lead to issues with air quality, which may even go as far as damaging the fabric of the building with issues like condensation and mould.

As well as making sure your system is running as it should, your accredited commissioner will take you through the system functionality and controls so that you know exactly what you are doing and provide the testing and handover paperwork required by Building Control (in order to pass Building Regulations).

Check out this blog in our MVHR Info centre which explains what you need to know before the installation is considered complete.

MVHR SERVICING & SPARES

Regularly servicing an MVHR unit is essential and will both prolong the life of the unit and ensures good indoor air quality.

Dust and debris from the air can lead to a build-up in the unit's filters. How quickly this happens may depend on where you are located, with city locations quickly collecting more particulates than rural areas. In most cases, all that needs to be done is to change or clean the filters.

A simple look will be enough for most people to identify that a filter change is necessary, as there will be an accumulated collection of dirt and debris that cannot be removed with a light vacuum. Most MVHR manufacturers recommend that filters are changed between 6 and 12 months. It is important to only use genuine filters so that your warranty is not compromised.
